LETSI's Mission

LETSI promotes increased global adoption of e-learning by:

  • Supporting the global adoption of interoperability standards.
  • Providing leadership and vision across market sectors: compulsory education, higher education, corporate training, professional training and certification, and other adopters.
  • Facilitating participation by all stakeholders, including communities with limited resources - often those with the greatest need for e-learning solutions.
  • Harmonizing the activities of multiple specification development and standards-setting organizations.
  • Incorporating into our interoperability models only open standards, developed in an open process and available without encumbrance to all players. LETSI neither develops interoperability specifications nor certifies them as international standards.

LETSI Community Spans Market, National Boundaries

Representatives from Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, Hungary, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Norway, Singapore, Switzerland, Tunisia, the United Kingdom, and the United States assembled at the London Institute for Education in March 2007 to discuss the formation of LETSI. The group included representatives from national standards bodies, learning industry associations, learning technology vendors, and e-learning innovators from academia, industry, and government.

Getting Involved

We are always happy to hear from the LETSI community at large. This wiki is viewable by the public, and with a (free) account you can add your voice to LETSI by participating in a Working Group, commenting on a document, or contributing to a discussion forum. We welcome your participation.

Working Group participants attend meetings by teleconference every week or two and have wiki permissions to create and edit pages. Please contact info@letsi.org if you're interested in participating in a Working Group.

Founding Sponsors Sign Charter

At the LETSI meeting in Seoul, Korea (March 13, 2008), the Founding Sponsors signed a Memorandum of Understanding about their common goals and principles and approved LETSI's Operating Procedures Pro Tem. The Sponsors' Executive Committee (SEC) will serve as LETSI's Board over the next year and will vote on the organization's policies and procedures, including the composition of the Board. The SEC will be replaced by an elected Board at the next Annual Meeting in 2009.

As LETSI transitions from a Founding Sponsors model to a member-run organization, the SEC will establish appropriate membership categories and fees. Participation in LETSI is open to any individual willing to support and uphold the principles that LETSI has set forth in its charter, policies, and procedures.
