Core SCORM Reference Model Documents (ISO/IEC Type 3 Technical Reports)

Core SCORM Conceptual Model

This document provides an overview of Core SCORM Conceptual Model and general clarifications on its use and adaptation.
Core SCORM comprises a Content Aggregation Model (CAM) and a Runtime Environment (RTE). One or more "bindings" are defined for the CAM and for the RTE. A Core SCORM conformant application will support both the CAM and the RTE with at least one binding as determined by an adopter community of practice.   The document describes the policies as determined by LETSI for Core SCORM intellectual property, translation, extension, and adaptation.

Core SCORM Glossary of Terms

This document provides a normative definition of an terms, such as Sharable Content Object (SCO) which are specific to SCORM. It is intended to support the translation of SCORM into multiple languages and the translation of this document into a desired language is a reasonable first step in translating other Core SCORM documents into that language.

Core SCORM Community of Practice Adopters Guide

This document provides a template to be used by Core SCORM Community of Practice adopters to describe how they are using Core SCORM. It will provide an place for a community of practice to describe the pedagogial and technical context in which it is using Core SCORM, as well as any constraints on Core SCORM use, including which CAM and RTE bindings are used, localization, profiling and extension requirements

Core SCORM CAM-RTE Integration and Behavior

The document provides an abstract, binding independent description of the relationship between the CAM and RTE, including data element initialization and expected runtime behavior.

Core SCORM CAM Binding and Usage Guide(s)

Each of these documents describes the binding and usage of the CAM in a particular content aggregation format, such as IMS Content Packaging, METS or a DITA Map. The binding is expressed as an XSLT transform from a normative definition of the CAM expressed in ISO/IEC 21000-2:2005 into a particular content aggregation format. Minimally, a binding document will need to be defined for IMS Content Packaging to support Core SCORM compatibility with SCORM 2004 3rd Edition.

Core SCORM LOM Binding and Usage Guide

This document describes the XML binding and usage of IEEE Learning Object Metadata to support its usage in conjunction with a Core SCORM CAM binding.

Core SCORM Binding and Usage Guide(S)

Each of these documents describes the binding and usage IEEE Runtime Communication Data Model to a particular transport merhanism. Minimally, there is a requirement for an ECMAScript binding for compatibility with SCORM 2004 3rd Edition RTE. There is an identified need to develop a Web Serve/XML Binding and an appropriate IEEE standard exists to support the XML component of this requirement. The AICC organization, addressing an analagous problem, has identified a need to support offline/disconnected use.
