General LETSI News
The October Workshop looks like it will be held in Pensacola, Florida. The SCWG will make the final decision this week. The dates are 15-17 October 2008, ending midday on Friday the 17th.
Tyde discussed LETSI/SCORM's relationship with ISO. He suggested that we make the IEEE LTSC the home for standards that will go into SCORM. We would rely on the agreement between the IEEE and ISO/IEC to move the standards into ISO. Tyde will present this model at the SC36 meeting in Stuttgart in September.
SCORM 2.0 Program Committee
Frank Polster reviewed a talk by David Wiley about Web 2.0 concepts in e-learning, stressing that SCORM 2.0 has to re-think some basic assumptions about e-learning activities.
Tom Wason presented a proposal for organizing the topics we've listed out so far. We'll return to this as we start planning the program for the Workshop.
Thirty-four people have volunteered to be on the Program Committee, so far, which will be Co-Chaired by Robby Robson and Mike Rustici. We are still looking for volunteers to be Area Chairs for some of the key topics. The first White Paper was quite thoughtful and was submitted by a SCORM aficionado we'd never heard of!
We also discussed the differences between formal, managed training and less formal types of learning and the tradeoffs between flexibility and complexity as SCORM 2.0 tries to find a balance.
Several folks on the call intend to submit at least one white paper: Wayne, Fred, Jill (coordinating input from SIFA), Tom W. (and one or two more from IAI), Schawn, Frank, Avron and Tyde. Tyde will contact the Accessibility folks about submitting a white paper.
For those who are having trouble getting started writing, Fred suggested doing a SWOT analysis (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats) as a way to lay out your ideas.
