3. General LETSI News

A LETSI newsletter prepared by the Strategic Communications WG has been sent to approximately 200 people, including the parties who attended the March 2007 London meeting and who have expressed interest in being LETSI advisors.

A LETSI Sponsors Agreement was unanimously approved by the individuals representing LETSI sponsor organizations. A future step will be to ask the actual sponsor organizations to approve the document. The expectation is that the agreement will be shared publically in the near future.

The Core SCORM idea will be discussed at several upcoming meetings: ADL Implementation Fest (August), ISO/IEC JTC1 SC36 meeting (September), AICC meeting (September)

4. WG Infrastructure

The WG email reflector is now operational for WG members: tech@letsi.org

The WG wiki structure has been altered so that all information is public except the email addresses of WG members and the access information for WG telecons.

All WG members have wiki editing priviledges for the LETSI Tech wiki space. The participants identifed a need for the WG to agree on conventions for editing wiki content.

5. WG Charter Project

The participants clarifed that the WG charter on the wiki is a draft, that the WG needs to refine and agree on a proposed charter, and that the proposed charter will be submitted to the SEC for approval.

A project area will be be set up on the wiki for WG members to comment on the charter. Comments are requested by the next WG meeting where they will be discussed.

6. Core SCORM Project

The participants discussed the "Core SCORM" proposal that ADL submitted to SC36 for discussion at the September SC36 meeting.

This proposal will be used as a base document to develop the Core SCORM concept in the WG. Several options were discussed for enabling the WG to comment on and evolve the document. The convener agreed to propose a method so that WG members can begin commenting.

The WG discussed the omission of sequencing support in Core SCORM. The ADL expectation is that Core SCORM will not break SCORM 2004 which contains sequencing, and that sequencing will remain a community of practice extension used by ADL and perhaps other communities. ADL also expects to take the lead on evaluating different options for the future of sequencing support. Discussion of this is expected in the next ADL Technical Working Group Meeting.

The WG discussed the issue of a possible SC36 ad hoc activity to investigate Core SCORM, and how that would relate to LETSI work on the same topic. A concern was raised that SC36 participation is very formal and by national bodies, whereas the LETSI Tech WG at present has participation by individuals. The roles of these two activities will need to be carefully defined, with the SC36 role perhaps focusing more explicitly on standardization issues.

7. Community of Practice Requirements Project

The WG discussed a project to enable communities of practice to express there SCORM use cases and requirements. One intended outcome is to influence the development of Core SCORM so that it can, in fact, support adaptation by diverse communities of practice.

We discussed trying to identify these requirements with Medbiquitous (Valerie) and SIFA (Jill ). Another candidate is the AICC and a related workshop will occur at the AICC meeting in September. Kiyoshi contributed a paper on using SCORM for mobile learning which is another opportunity. ADL itself has some ideas of what SCORM will need to support moving forward (S1000D technical publication, simulation, etc.)

Danny expressed interest in identifying the general requirements needed to support adaptation by diverse communities of practice.

Tom expressed interest in identifying the general requirements for support of legacy content and backward compatibility.

A project area will be set up on the wiki to enable work to begin.
